Nano-flame retardant PP technology passed technical appraisal

The nano-flame retardant polypropylene special material technology jointly developed by Sinopec Wuhan Petrochemical Plant and Huazhong University of Science and Technology passed the technical appraisal organized by Hubei Province. This technology achieves the flame retarding effect of PP on Sb2O3 for the first time, and realizes the strengthening and toughening of PP, and obtains PP-based nanocomposites with excellent flame retardant properties and mechanical properties. After filling 5% of nano-Sb2O3, the flame retardant performance is V-0, the impact strength is 20.0-21.3 kJ/m2, the tensile strength is 33.7-34.4 MPa, and the tensile modulus is 1.87-2.20 GPa. The technique uses in-situ copolymerization to coat the surface of nano-Sb2O3 with polyacrylate polymer, and then combines with PP to solve the problem of agglomeration of nanoparticles, which is beneficial to the dispersion of Sb2O3 in the polymer matrix. The obtained nano-flame retardant PP can be used as a PP-specific material, and not only can be engineered and improved in performance of PP, but also functionalization of PP can be realized.
