Xianglong Stone Sculpture exhibited during the Spring Festival

In order to welcome the arrival of the Spring Festival of the Year of the Dragon, Zhao Shengxing, a master of arts and crafts in Tianjin, has designed and produced a series of stone carvings named “Xianglong”. Its works are rich in Tianjin features, a novel style, lively, exquisitely carved, fine workmanship, stone all use lamella from the city of Shexian County, 1.8 billion years ago.

Zhao Shengxing has used stromatolites in Jixian County of Tianjin as an engraving material since his creation in 2000. Lamellar stone is an ancient fossil fossil that was deposited by marine algae 1.8 billion years ago. It is hailed as “geological treasure of the world”. Due to the stromatolite texture and density, the history of its carving is unprecedented, and Zhao Shengxing's stone carving skills have filled the gaps in this field.

Zhao Shengxing's work has been rated as "China's Best" by Shanghai Big World Ginis, and was awarded the "National Excellent Award for Arts and Crafts" by the National Development and Reform Commission. He has repeatedly won the first prize in national masterpieces. The Tianjin Museum uses his works as Treasures are a permanent collection. The series of "dragon" stone carvings will be exhibited on the occasion of the Spring Festival of the Year of the Dragon.
