Method for testing hydroxyl content in quartz glass

[China Glass Net] Method for testing hydroxyl content in quartz glass

1 subject content and scope of application

This standard specifies the preparation of the sample, the test instrument, the test procedure and the result processing when testing the hydroxyl content in the quartz glass.

This standard applies to the determination of hydroxyl content in transparent quartz glass.

2 reference standard

Gb9657 semiconductor transparent quartz glass tube gb9658 light source and vacuum instrument with transparent quartz glass tube jc426-91 odorless oxy quartz glass tube 3 terminology

3.1 Transmittance or transmittance: the ratio of the light intensity of the transmitted object to the intensity of the incident light, the symbol is t.

3.2 Spectral transmission curve: The distribution curve of transmittance or transmittance with wavelength.

3.3 Optical Density: A measure of the ability of a glass to block the transmission of light. The symbol is d, and the value is equal to the common logarithm of the reciprocal of transmittance.

3.4 Baseline: The line connecting the two sides of the absorption peak on the spectral transmission curve.

3.5 Neutral: The line through which the transmittance of the spectrum is zero.

3.6 molar absorption coefficient: absorbance per unit optical path length at a concentration of 1 mol/l, and the symbol is ε.

4 test principle

The quantitative determination was based on the linear relationship between the hydroxyl content in the quartz glass and the light absorption at a wavelength of 2.73 μm.

5 test equipment

5.1 Infrared spectrophotometer with a measurable wavelength range of 2.00 to 3.30 μm and a measurement accuracy of ±1%t.

5.2 AC voltage regulator with stable accuracy of ±0.5%.

5.3 A caliper with a precision of ±0.01 mm and a vernier caliper measuring 0.02 mm.

5.4 A set of rectangular fixed light bars (2 pieces) with a width of 0.6 to 1.0 mm.

6 sample preparation

6.1 Select the sample to be tested from the quartz glass products whose appearance quality is in accordance with gb9657, gb9658, jc126 or the corresponding standard.

6.2 When the sample to be tested is in the form of a block, the quartz glass to be tested is cut, ground and polished into a mirror surface to make two transparent samples with a parallel thickness difference of less than or equal to 0.05 mm on both sides of 25 mm×12 mm, and the thickness is 0.1 to 10.0 mm. The thickness of the artificial quartz glass is 0.1 to 0.7 mm, the thickness of the gas-smelting glass is 0.8 to 3.0 mm, and the thickness of the fused silica glass is 1.6 to 10.0 mm. The transmittance of the sample at 2.73 μm was in the range of 10% to 80% (absorbance in the range of 1.0 to 0.1). When the sample to be tested is tubular, the quartz glass tube to be tested is cut into two sections of the length of 35 to 40 mm, and each of the curved specimens having a chord length of 8 to 15 mm is cut along the length of the tube.
